Beef And Broccoli
- 1/2 lb. beef round steak, cut in 1-inch cubes
- 1 small clove garlic, minced
- 2 tsp. sugar
- 1 tsp. salt
- 2 Tbsp. cooking oil
- 2 to 4 Tbsp. sake, sherry or gin
- 2 Tbsp. soy sauce
- 1 1/2 lb. (8 c.) chopped broccoli
- 3/4 c. water
- 2 Tbsp. cornstarch
- 1/2 c. cold water
- hot cooked rice
- Stir-fry beef, garlic, sugar and salt in hot oil.
- Stir in sake and soy sauce; cook, covered, 2 to 3 minutes.
- Remove meat and set aside.
- Add broccoli and 3/4 cup water to skillet (or wok).
- Bring to boiling; stir and then cook, covered, 2 to 5 minutes more.
- Add meat.
- Combine cornstarch and 1/2 cup cold water.
- Pour into center of mixture.
- Cook and stir 2 to 3 minutes or until thick and bubbly.
- Serve with hot cooked rice.
- Serves 4.
