Healthy, Tasty, Sloppy Joes

  1. Gently saute the onions until they are soft - you don't want to brown them, they need to be translucent and sweet.
  2. Add the tomatoes, oregano, basil, mustard, tomato paste, sugar.
  3. Simmer gently, covered, until the tomatoes are cooked, soft and loose.
  4. Gently fry your beef until it is cooked, turn into the pan containing your tomato sauce.
  5. Add water.
  6. Simmer gently until beef is tender and mixture has obtained 'sloppy' consistency.
  7. Serve on split, toasted buns.
  8. Alternatives and additions: Speed things up with a can of low-sodium tomato puree.
  9. Chopped mushrooms, sweetcorn, chile sauce, anything you can think of that your family or friends like can be added at the last stage.
