Deluxe Buttermilk Biscuits

  1. Dissolve yeast in warm water; set aside.
  2. Combine dry ingredients; cut in shortening with pastry blender until resembles coarse meal.
  3. Add yeast mixture and buttermilk to dry ingredients and mix well.
  4. Turn dough out on a floured surface; knead lightly 4 to 5 times.
  5. Roll dough to 1/2-inch thickness.
  6. Cut with 2-inch biscuit cutter.
  7. Place on greased baking sheet.
  8. Brush tops with melted butter.
  9. Bake at 400u0b0 for 12 to 15 minutes.
  10. Makes 3 1/2 dozen biscuits.
  11. May freeze leftovers.
  12. Wrap in foil to reheat at 350u0b0 for 15 minutes.
  13. Open foil last 5 minutes.
