Deluxe Buttermilk Biscuits
- 1 pkg. dry yeast
- 2 Tbsp. warm water
- 5 c. flour
- 1/4 c. sugar
- 1 Tbsp. baking powder
- 1 tsp. soda
- 1 tsp. salt
- 1 c. shortening
- 2 c. buttermilk
- melted butter or margarine
- Dissolve yeast in warm water; set aside.
- Combine dry ingredients; cut in shortening with pastry blender until resembles coarse meal.
- Add yeast mixture and buttermilk to dry ingredients and mix well.
- Turn dough out on a floured surface; knead lightly 4 to 5 times.
- Roll dough to 1/2-inch thickness.
- Cut with 2-inch biscuit cutter.
- Place on greased baking sheet.
- Brush tops with melted butter.
- Bake at 400u0b0 for 12 to 15 minutes.
- Makes 3 1/2 dozen biscuits.
- May freeze leftovers.
- Wrap in foil to reheat at 350u0b0 for 15 minutes.
- Open foil last 5 minutes.
