German Anise Christmas Cookies
- 23 cup butter
- 1 cup sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1 tablespoon aniseed
- 2 teaspoons anise extract
- 2 1/2 cups flour, all-purpose
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- In large bowl, cream butter and sugar.
- Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition.
- Beat in flavorings.
- Combine flour, baking powder and salt and mix well, then add to creamed mixture.
- Cover dough and refrigerate at least 1 hour, or until easy to handle.
- When ready to bake, preheat oven to 375F (190C).
- On lightly floured surface, roll out dough to 1/4-inch thickness.
- Cut with medium-size cutters and place on parchment-lined cookie sheet.
- Bake in preheated oven 8 to 12 minutes or until lightly browned.
- Remove and cool on wire rack.
- Decorate cookies with icing and crystal sugar if desired.
