Batter Crisp Onion Rings Recipe
- 3 lrg Sweet onions, sliced 1/4" and separated into rings
- 1 1/2 tsp Baking pwdr
- 1 c. Flour
- 1/2 tsp Salt
- 1 x Egg
- 2/3 c. Water
- 1/2 Tbsp. Lemon juice
- 1 Tbsp. Melted butter Oil for frying
- Soak the onion rings in ice water for at least 1/2 hour.
- Pat the onion rings dry with paper towels.
- Sift together the baking pwdr, flour and salt.
- Combine the egg, water, and lemon juice and beat till frothy.
- Stir this into the dry ingredients just till blended.
- Add in butter.
- Dip onion rings into batter, a few at a time.
- Drop into 375 deg.
- F. oil.
- Fry 2 min on each side, turning once.
- Drain on absorbent paper.
- Keep warm in slow oven (325 deg.
- F.) till all are cooked.
- Do not crowd them in the fryer.
