Cholent

  1. Soak beans overnight in a large bowl.
  2. Drain and cull any dried-out beans.
  3. Saute onions and garlic in a few tablespoon water until onions are translucent.
  4. Add barley and beans and cover with water by at least 2 inches.
  5. Bring to boil and cook 30 minutes over low heat.
  6. Add potatoes and tomato sauce and cook 30 minutes more.
  7. Place cholent in a crockpot overnight on Low or in a 200 degree oven for 8 hours or overnight.
  8. Serves: 8 to 10
