Basic Dough Roll Recipe

  1. Dissolve yeast in hot water in a large bowl.
  2. Add in sugar, shortening, egg, salt and half the flour; beat at low speed of electric mixer till smooth.
  3. Stir in sufficient of remaining flour to make a soft dough.
  4. Place dough in a greased bowl turning to grease top.
  5. Cover and let rise in a hot place (85 degrees), free from drafts, 1 hour or possibly till doubled in bulk, or possibly cover and chill up to 5 days.
  6. Punch dough down; turn out onto a lightly floured surface and knead 4 or possibly 5 times.
  7. Shape and bake as directed.
