Sage Buttermilk Biscuits
- 1 cup whole wheat flour
- 1 cups flour, all-purpose
- 4 teaspoons baking powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 3 tablespoons sage leaves chopped
- 1/4 cup butter
- 3/4 cups buttermilk
- 1 x egg wash optional
- Add the whole wheat flour to a food processor and process for 2 minutes.
- Add the remaining flour, baking powder, salt and sage then pulse to combine.
- With the processor running drop in the cold butter in little pieces until coarse crumbs form.
- Transfer to a large bowl.
- Make a well in the center of the flour mixture and add the buttermilk.
- Mix until just holding together, do not over mix.
- Turn out onto wax paper, roll out and cut or shape into desired shapes.
- Try to handle the mixture as little as possible.
- Brush tops with an egg wash if desired.
- Bake in a preheated 400 degree F oven for 12 to 15 minutes.
