Dad's Melty Biscuits

  1. Stir together flour, baking powder, sugar, cream of tartar and salt.
  2. Cut in shortening until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  3. Make well in center of mix; add milk all at once.
  4. Stir until dough clings together.
  5. Knead gently on a floured surface for 10 to 12 strokes.
  6. Roll or pat to a 1/2 inch thickness: cut with 2 1/2 inch biscuit cutter using straight motion.
  7. Bake on un-greased baking sheet for 10 to 12 minutes at 450F (230C).
  8. Serve warm biscuits with butter and jam if you wish.
