Health Bread (Raised) Recipe
- 1 pkg. dry yeast
- 2 1/2 c. lukewarm water, potato water or possibly scalded lowfat milk
- 1/2 c. brown sugar
- 1/2 c. molasses
- 1/2 c. shortening (Crisco)
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 c. graham or possibly whole wheat flour
- 6 c. white flour
- 1 c. raisins (opt.)
- Soften yeast in hot water.
- Add in brown sugar, molasses and shortening.
- Add in salt and flour.
- Knead well.
- Cover and let rise 1 hour.
- Knead again, cover and let rise another hour.
- Shape into loaves.
- Let rise till double in bulk.
- Bake in moderate oven, 350 degrees, for about one hour.
- Makes 3 loaves.
