Homemade French Onion Dip
- 2 Tablespoons Olive Oil
- 1 whole Yellow Onion, Chopped
- 2 teaspoons Brown Sugar
- 1 clove Garlic, Minced
- 1 teaspoon Balsamic Vinegar
- 1 cup Sour Cream
- 13 cups Mayonnaise
- 1 Tablespoon Fresh Parsley, Chopped
- 18 teaspoons White Pepper
- 1 pinch Salt To Taste
- Heat the oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
- Add the onion and cook until translucent, about 10 minutes.
- Sprinkle 1-2 teaspoons of brown sugar over the onions, reduce heat to low and continue to cook for another 10 minutes, until onions turn deep golden and are caramelized.
- Add the minced garlic and and balsamic vinegar.
- Stir gently and cook for another 2 minutes.
- Remove from heat and allow to cool.
- In a medium bowl, mix together the sour cream, mayonnaise, parsley, and pepper.
- When onions have cooled off, add them to the sour cream mixture and stir.
- Use a stick blender to puree the dip to desired consistency.
- Add salt to taste, if desired.
- Refrigerate until cold or overnight.
- Serve with crackers, chips, or veggies.
- Recipe note: The balsamic vinegar is just to add a little something extra, but it is not pronounced in this recipe.
- If you want more balsamic flavor, add more to taste.
