The Easiest French Onion Soup
- 6 large yellow onions
- 3 tablespoons olive oil
- 14 ounces chicken broth
- 10 ounces beef broth
- 2 tablespoons marsala (optional) or 2 tablespoons red wine (optional)
- Peel and thinly slice the onions.
- Put in the slow cooker and toss with the olive oil.
- Cover and cook for 9-10 hours on high.
- Add the broths and wine/marsala, if using; add no water or salt.
- Cover and continue to cook on high until hot, 15-30 minutes.
- Serve with garlic bread or french bread topped with melted gruyere cheese.
