Black Labrador Shepherds Pie Recipe
- 2 lb grnd chuck
- 2/3 c. minced yellow onion
- 1/2 c. minced celery
- 2 x cloves garlic, chopped
- 2 lb potatoes, peeled
- 4 Tbsp. butter
- 2 x carrots, sliced
- 2 ounce (about 2 1/2 Tbsp.) beef base
- 1 c. water
- 2 Tbsp. flour
- 1 c. shredded Cheddar cheese
- Saute/fry` beef, onion, celery and garlic in a large pan till well done.
- Strain off fat.
- Boil potatoes till fork tender, about 20 min.
- Drain and mash with butter.
- Blanch carrots and add in to beef mix.
- Make a gravy with beef base and water.
- Whisk in sufficient flour to thicken, about 2 Tbsp..
- When gravy comes to a boil, add in beef and carrot mix, reduce heat and simmer for 5 min.
- Spoon meat mix into a 2-qt casserole.
- Spoon potatoes on top.
- Bake for 20 min at 350 degrees.
- Top with cheese and let sit till cheese melts from the radiated heat.
- about 5 min.
- Serves 6 to 8.
