Oven Swiss Steak
- 1 1/2 lb. beef round steak (3/4-inch thick)
- 1/4 c. all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp. salt
- 1 (16 oz.) can stewed tomatoes
- 1/2 c. chopped celery
- 1/2 c. chopped carrot
- 2 Tbsp. chopped onion
- 1/2 tsp. Worcestershire sauce
- 1/4 c. shredded sharp American cheese
- Cut meat into 4 portions.
- Mix flour and salt.
- Pound into meat.
- Set aside remaining flour.
- Brown meat in small amount hot shortening.
- Place meat in shallow baking dish.
- Blend remaining flour with drippings in skillet.
- Add remaining ingredients, except cheese.
- Cook, stirring constantly, until mixture boils. Pour over meat.
- Cover and bake in 350u0b0 oven for 2 hours or until tender.
- Top with cheese.
- Return to oven for a few minutes. Serves 4.
