Sloppy Joes

  1. Peel the onion and dice it into 1/4-inch pieces.
  2. Cut the celery into 1/4-inch pieces.
  3. Place the onion, celery, and ground beef in a large saute pan.
  4. Cook over medium heat, stirring occasionally, for 10 minutes, or until the ground beef is thoroughly cooked.
  5. Dump the meat into a colander and let the fat drain off, washing the grease down the sink with hot running water.
  6. Put the drained meat back in the saute pan.
  7. Add the tomato paste, ketchup, ground mustard, and brown sugar to the pan and stir well.
  8. Cook for 20 minutes and season to taste with salt and pepper.
  9. Spoon the meat onto hamburger buns and serve immediately.
