Mother's Apple Butter
- 2 quarts apple puree
- 2 cups apple cider, boiled down to 1 cup (or 1 cup apple cider vinegar)
- 4 cups sugar
- 2 teaspoons ground cloves
- 2 teaspoons allspice
- 1 tablespoon cinnamon
- 12 teaspoon nutmeg
- Preheat oven to 250.
- Combine everything and bring to a boil.
- Cook gently 30 minutes, stirring frequently.
- Pour into oven proof dish or pan and bake, uncovered in a slow oven, 250, for 2 hours or until thick, stirring occasionally.
- Pour into hot jars and seal.
- Comment: if keeping on the shelf used standard canning methods.
