Oprah's Onion and Thyme Tart

  1. In a food processor, combine flour, butter, salt and sugar; pulse until if forms coarse meal.
  2. continue pulsing and add water 1 tbls at a time, until meal moistens into dough.
  3. Form dough into disc; wrap in plastic.
  4. Refrigerate at least 30 minutes.
  5. Meanwhile, in a large saute pan over med flame, heat oil and butter.
  6. Once hot, add onions; cook slowly until golden brown, about 25 minutes.
  7. Stir in thyme, salt and pepper.
  8. Set aside.
  9. Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
  10. Roll out dough on a floured piece of parchment into 14 to 15 inch circle (doesn't have to be exact!
  11. ).
  12. Place cooled onion mixture in center, fold over edges about 2 inches.
  13. In a small bowl, combine egg yolk and heavy cream; brush mixture over edges of dough.
  14. Bake until golden brown, 20 to 25 minutes.
  15. Serve warm.
