Southern Meatloaf

  2. Preheat oven to 350 F. Saute the onions, celery and bell pepper in a skillet over medium heat.
  3. When they are softened and translucent, remove skillet from heat.
  4. 2.
  5. Sprinkle salt and pepper over meat in a large bowl.
  6. 3.
  7. In a small/medium bowl, mix the egg, milk and bread together.
  8. 4.
  9. Mix the bread mixture into the meat.
  10. 5.
  11. Mix the onion, celery, bell pepper, tomato paste and Karo syrup into the meat.
  12. 6.
  13. Transfer to either a casserole dish or a non-stick loaf pan.
  14. I use a non-stick loaf pan by Wilton.
  15. Its a 9 x 5 x 2 inch (roughly) pan with another inside pan that has holes in the bottom to let grease run out.
  16. 7.
  17. Spread ketchup over the top of the loaf.
  18. 8.
  19. Sprinkle bread crumbs over top.
  20. 9.
  21. Optional: A few Durkees onions on top is a yummy extra!
  22. 10.
  23. Put into the 350 F oven for 45 minutes to 1 hour.
