Classic Sugar Cookies

  1. Mix together shortening, sugar, eggs and vanilla.
  2. Blend in flour, baking powder and salt.
  3. Cover dough and chill for 1 hour.
  4. Heat over to 400 degrees.
  5. Roll dough 1/8 inch thick on a lightly floured surface.
  6. cut into desired shapes with cookie cutters.
  7. place on a ungreased baking sheet.
  8. Bake 6 - 8 minutes or until light golden brown.
  9. Butterscotch Sugar Cookies: Substitute brown sugar for the sugar and add 1 cup of black walnuts.
  10. Filled Sugar Cookies: Before baking, put cookies together in pairs with 1 tsp of your favorite filling or a chocolate mint wafer.
  11. Press edges together with a fork.
  12. This will make 2 dozen cookies.
