Cottage Pie

  1. Brown the ground beef and onion over medium heat in a cast iron skillet if you have one; if not, use another pan that is oven-proof.
  2. Once the ground beef is browned, drain grease if necessary and then stir in the jar of brown gravy.
  3. Smooth out the mixture, and then well do a little layering.
  4. Spread the peas evenly over the top of the mixture.
  5. Dollop (love that word, dollop) the mashed potatoes on top of the peas.
  6. Carefully spread the mashed potatoes to the edge of the skillet.
  7. Broil for about 5 minutes in the oven.
  8. Remove, and sprinkle with cheese.
  9. Let the casserole sit, and watch the cheese melt.
  10. Once it looks like the photo, call in the man and enjoy!
