Orange Victorian Dream Bars

  1. Preheat the oven to 350.
  2. Lightly butter an 11x7 baking pan or 9" square pan.
  3. In a large bowl, cream the butter and sugar with an electric mixer until light and fluffy.
  4. Beat in the egg until blended.
  5. Gradually add the orange juice until blended.
  6. (the mixture will look curdled).
  7. In a seperate bowl, sift together the flour and baking powder.
  8. Add the grated orange zest and candied orange peel.
  9. Stir to coat.
  10. Add the flour mixture to the butter mixture, stir to blend.
  11. Spread the batter into the prepared pan.
  12. Bake for 20-25 minutes or until the edges are golden.
  13. Cool on a wire rack.
  14. Sprinkle with a layer of sieved powdered sugar before cutting into bars.
