- 5 dashes Worcestershire Sauce
- 3 pounds Ground Beef
- 1 teaspoon Salt
- 1 teaspoon Pepper
- 1 teaspoon Onion Powder
- 1 teaspoon Garlic Powder
- 3 Tablespoons Olive Oil
- 1 stick Butter
- 1 loaf Sourdough Bread
- 1 cup Thousand Island Dressing
- 9 slices Swiss Cheese
- For the sauteed onions, slice onion and saute in a saucepan on medium heat.
- Add olive oil and cook for 25 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Add salt, pepper and Worcestershire towards the end of cooking.
- Set aside.
- While onions cook, prepare the patties.
- Mix beef and seasonings, forming into an oval shape about the sized of the sourdough bread.
- (My patties were about 1/3 pound each.)
- Heat olive oil in electric skillet and prepare to fry each patty until nicely browned, and cooked through.
- Remove from pan, and drain on paper towels, keeping warm until ready to assemble the sandwiches.
- To assemble, wipe out skillet with more paper towels, but leave some of the oil and bits of meat behind.
- Spread butter on each slice of bread as needed, and place buttered-side down in the skillet.
- On one side of the bread, place a slice of Swiss cheese.
- On the other side, spread a generous helping of dressing.
- Place a beef patty and onions on top of the dressing.
- Wait for bread to be warmed and toasted before assembling the sandwiches and removing from skillet.
