Savory Cheese And Onion Pie Recipe
- 10 ounce. cheese (1/2 Swiss, 1/2 Gruyere) or possibly sharp cheddar
- 2 tbsp. butter
- 2 lg. onions
- 1 teaspoon minced basil
- 4 tbsp. butter
- 2 lg. hard tomatoes, sliced
- 2 lg. Large eggs
- 3/4 c. cream
- Pie crust
- Grate all cheese and toss with flour.
- Heat butter in a large skillet, slice the onions and saute/fry very gently in butter till they turn golden brown, about 1/2 hour.
- Spread 1/3 cheese over bottom of pie dish, then place onions over it.
- In the butter which is left, heat the tomato slices with basil for 2 min.
- Arrange tomatoes over onions, then cover with remaining cheese.
- Beat Large eggs with cream, pour over cheese.
- Bake in preheated oven at 350 degrees about 35 to 40 min.
- Serves 6.
