Glazed Pumpkin Crescents Recipe
- 1 pkg. active dry yeast
- 1 c. hot water, 105 to 115 degrees
- 1 c. canned pumpkin
- 1/2 c. shortening
- 1 egg
- 1/3 c. packed brown sugar
- 1 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 5-6 c. all purpose flour
- 1 c. pitted prunes, minced
- 1/4 c. water
- butter, softened
- Spice Glaze (below)
- Dissolve yeast in 1 c. hot water in a large bowl.
- Stir in pumpkin, shortening, egg, brown sugar, salt and 3 c. of the flour; beat thoroughly.
- Stir in sufficient remaining flour to make dough easy to handle.
- Turn dough onto lightly floured surface; knead till smooth and elastic.
- Place in greased bowl; turn greased side up.
- Cover and let rise in hot place till double, about 1 1/2 hrs.
- Heat prunes and 1/4 c. water till thickened.
- Punch down dough; divide into 3 parts.
- Roll each part into 12" circle.
- Spread with prune mix.
- Cut into 12 wedges.
- Roll up each wedge, beginning at rounded side.
- Place with points underneath on greased baking sheet; curve to create crescents.
- Brush with butter.
- Let rise till double, about 1 hour.
- Heat oven to 400 degrees.
- Bake till golden, 15 to 20 min.
- Spread with Spice Glaze.
- Makes 3 dozen crescents.
- If using self rising flour, omit salt.
- SPICE GLAZE: Mix 1 1/2 c. powdered sugar, 1/2 tsp.
- pumpkin pie spice and 1 to 2 Tbsp.
- orange juice till smooth and of desired consistency.
