Salem Hermits
- 3/4 c. butter or margarine
- 1/2 c. molasses
- 2 c. all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp. cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp. each: nutmeg and cloves
- 1/4 c. strong coffee
- 1 c. raisins
- 1 c. brown sugar, packed
- 3 eggs
- 1 c. whole wheat flour
- 1/2 tsp. baking soda
- 1/4 tsp. salt
- 1/2 c. each: pecans, walnuts, hazelnuts and almonds
- Cream butter, sugar and molasses until light and fluffy.
- Beat in eggs, one at a time.
- In another bowl, combine flours, spices, baking soda and salt.
- Beat into butter mixture alternately with the coffee.
- Stir in nuts and raisins.
- Pour into lightly buttered 10 x 15-inch baking pan.
- Bake at 350u0b0 for 20 minutes.
- Cool.
- Cut into squares.
