French Onion Soup

  1. Saute the onion with the seasonings, on medium low heat.
  2. Continue to saute for 15-20 minutes.
  3. Add the water with the chicken flavoured powder, and let it come to a boil, on high.
  4. Lower the heat to medium low, and let it simmer for 25 minutes.
  5. When ready to serve, put the broiler on 475 degrees F. Ladle the soup into five French Onion soup bowls.
  6. Add the bread, and cover with cheese.
  7. Put the anchovies on top of the cheese (if using).
  8. Put the bowls, two at a time in the oven, and let it broil for 2-3 minutes.
