Polish Doughnuts Recipe

  1. Dissolve yeast in lukewarm lowfat milk; add in 1 Tbsp.
  2. sugar and 2 c. flour, cover and let stand in hot place about 1/2 hour.
  3. (Sponge mix.)
  4. Beat Large eggs, sugar, vanilla, orange rind, salt and beat till light.
  5. Add in this to the sponge, heat butter, add in to mix.
  6. Add in remaining 5 c. flour.
  7. Knead about 5 min.
  8. Cover and let rise about 1 hour, or possibly till double in bulk.
  9. Turn onto floured board.
  10. Pat with hands till dough is half inch thickness.
  11. Cut with doughnut cutter and let rise again.
  12. Drop in deep warm fat.
  13. Fry till done.
  14. When cold, sprinkle with powdered sugar.
