Chilled Fruit Soup with Spiked Nuts

  1. Combine sugar and champagne in saucepan; stir to dissolve.
  2. Add fruit juice; heat to boiling.
  3. Reduce heat; simmer for 15 minutes.
  4. Strain through cheesecloth; refrigerate until chilled.
  5. Place honeydew, cantaloupe, watermelon, grapes and plums in bowl.
  6. Combine vodka, tequila, orange juice, cinnamon and nutmeg; pour over fruits.
  7. Marinate 15 minutes.
  8. Place marinated fruit in chilled soup cup; place honeydew ring over fruit.
  9. Ladle chilled fruit broth into cup.
  10. Suggested accompaniments include quick breads such as coconut-banana bread.
