  1. in a lg heavy skillet melting 2 cups of just sugar, untill it is a caramel color, and totaly melted.
  2. turn to lowest setting of simmering.
  3. combine 4 cup of sugar, milk and evaporated milk and syrup.in a large pot.
  4. (It needs to be large sause pot).bring to a boil, while sugar is caramelizing.pour caramelized sugar in milk mixture slowly into boil mixture.
  5. (carefuly pour it will bubble up to top of pot),stir very fast.cook to 245F check heat with candy thermometer, when it reaches 245F take it off the heat, still stirring frequently.
  6. immediately add the soda, again becareful its going to bubble and rise and foam up.stir hard.then add butter.stir only long enough for the better to melt .
  7. let cool for 25 minutes on the side.
  8. after 25 minues of cooling, add vanilla extract, stir and beat untill thick and creamy.add peacans folding them in dont stir, folding them in.
  9. pour in a 9x13 buttered pan or glass dish.
  10. let cool on counter for 1 hour then place in refrigerator, for 6 hours, then cut intop bite size pieces.
  11. this will keep for along time, if in tight container, enjoy them
  12. this recipe i got from my aunt, as a little girl.
