Rolled Molasses Wafers

  1. Heat molasses to boiling point.
  2. Add shortening sugar and salt.
  3. Sift together flour and spices, add alternately with beaten egg.
  4. Drop by teaspoonful on a well greased cookie sheet.
  5. Bake at 300F for about 10 minutes.
  6. Cool 2 minutes and curl around a wooden spoon handle that has been greased.
  7. Cookies may be filled with Molasses Butter Frosting.
  8. (If cookies become too crisp to roll, heat a few minutes in oven.)
  9. For best results on this recipe, use Fancy Molasses, "Lite" molasses is not recommended.
  10. MOLASSES BUTTER FROSTING:.
  11. Add 1 cup confectioners sugar, egg white and flavoring to creamed butter.
  12. Mix well.
  13. Add remaining confectioners sugar alternately with molasses and milk.
  14. Beat well.
