Beef Yakiniku (BBQ) Roll California Style
- 1 bowl Cooked rice (warm)
- 2 tbsp Sushi vinegar
- 1 Fresh eggs
- 50 grams Thinly sliced beef
- 1 tbsp Yakiniku (Japanese BBQ) sauce
- 1 Mayonnaise
- 1 sheet Toasted nori seaweed (for sushi roll)
- 20 cm x 7 cm Leaf lettuce (green part)
- 1 Black sesame seeds
- 1 Vegetable oil (for sauteeing)
- Prepare the warm rice.
- It can be either freshly cooked rice or microwaved.
- In a bowl, add the rice, sprinkle the sushi vinegar, and mix it thoroughly.
- Leave it in the bowl until cool.
- Beat the egg and make the Japanese omelet with a tamagoyaki-pan (egg fryer).
- Do not add seasonings to the egg.
- It should look like the omelet for a bento filler.
- Once it is done cooking, move it to a plate and let it cool.
- In the same skillet, pan-fry the beef and add the yakiniku (BBQ) sauce.
- Once it is done, move it to a plate and let it cool.
- Cut the omelet to 1 cm long sticks.
- Match it to the nori length.
- Rinse the leaf lettuce and wipe off the excess water completely.
- This is very important.
- Prepare a makisu ( sushi bamboo mat).
- Place nori seaweed on the makisu.
- Leave a narrower space at the edge close to you and a wider space on the other side.
- Spread the sushi rice as shown in the picture.
- Leave about 1 cm space from the edge of the nori close to you, and 3 cm space on the other side.
- Place leaf lettuce just like in the picture.
- Add the omelet just like in the picture.
- Top it with the pan-fried beef just like in the picture.
- Roll it up from the closer edge while tighten it from above.

- When you finish rolling, leave it for about 10 minutes.
- This way the nori and the rice settle down.
- It is easier to slice the sushi roll if you wet the knife and your hand with vinegar each time you cut it.
- Remove the makisu and cut the sushi.
- Cut it in the middle first and cut each half into 4 equal sections.
- It will look like these in the picture.
- Place the end slices of the roll as well.
- Place on a plate and sprinkle with sesame seeds and mayonnaise and it is ready.
- Use your favorite yakiniku (BBQ) sauce.
