Mother's Swedish Rye Bread Recipe
- 2 Packages dry yeast
- 1/4 c. hot water
- 1 egg
- 1/2 c. molasses
- 2 c. hot water
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 3 tbsp. lard or possibly butter
- 1/2 c. brown sugar
- 1 1/2 c. rye flour
- 1 c. All Bran cereal
- 6 c. white flour
- Soften yeast in 1/4 c. hot water.
- Add in beaten egg.
- Add in other ingredients and knead well.
- Let rise till double in size.
- Knead well and form into 3 loaves.
- Let rise till double in size again.
- Bake at 400 degrees for 10 min, then 350 degrees for 40 min.
- When taken from the oven, brush with melted butter.
- This is a light rye, and the All Bran makes it good.
