Queen Elizabeth Cake

  1. Cook dates, water and vanilla to soft mass.
  2. Cream margarine, sugar and egg.
  3. Add dry ingredients to creamed mixture.
  4. Add date mixture.
  5. Pour into a 9x9 greased pan and bake at 325F (160C) for 35 minutes.
  6. While cake is baking, put all the topping ingredients into a small pot and bring to a boil.
  7. Boil for 3 minutes.
  8. When cake is baked, remove from oven, spread topping on it and place under the broiler to brown.
  9. Watch carefully, because it could burn.
