Boiled Brown Cake(A Holiday Cake)
- 1 c. brown sugar
- 1 c. white sugar
- 1 c. shortening or 1/2 margarine or butter
- 1 c. seeded raisins
- 1 c. pitted dates
- 2 tsp. cloves
- 1 tsp. nutmeg
- 2 tsp. cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 2 c. warm water
- 1 tsp. baking soda
- 2 Tbsp. warm water
- 4 c. sifted all-purpose flour
- 1 c. chopped walnuts
- Put first 10 ingredients in pan and bring to a boil.
- Remove from heat and let cool.
- Set in pan of cold water if you wish. Dissolve 1 teaspoon of soda in warm water and stir into mixture and then gradually beat in 4 cups flour.
- Put the walnuts in with last of flour.
- Bake in a greased Bundt type pan for 1 hour at 350u0b0. Let cool in pan and then turn out.
