Rare Sour Cream Fudge Recipe

  1. Grease an 8-inch square cake pan and set aside.
  2. Combine first 5 ingredients in medium heavy saucepan.
  3. Bring slowly to a boil, stirring, until sugar dissolves.
  4. Boil, without stirring, covered closely for about 3 minutes so steam can dissolve sugar crystals on pan sides.
  5. Uncover and boil on medium heat to 236u0b0 on candy thermometer or until a little of the mixture dropped into cold water forms a soft ball.
  6. Remove from heat and let stand for 15 minutes.
  7. Do not stir.
  8. Add flavoring; beat until mixture starts to lose its gloss (about 8 minutes).
  9. Stir in the candied cherries and walnuts and quickly pour into a greased shallow pan.
  10. Cool and cut into squares.
  11. Yields about 1 1/2 pounds of fudge.
