Tomato Cream Sauce for Pasta
- 1/2 cup olive oil
- 2 qt. onions, chopped King Sooper's 1 lb For $0.99 thru 02/09
- 2 Tbsp. garlic, minced
- 3-1/4 qt. Canned whole tomatoes, undrained
- 3 qt. Canned tomato sauce
- 2 qt. PHILADELPHIA Original Cream Cheese, cubed
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 2 cups fresh basil, finely chopped
- 1 Tbsp. salt
- 2 tsp. pepper
- Heat oil in steam-jacketed kettle (or large pot for trial recipe).
- Add onion and garlic; saute 10 minutes or until tender.
- Add tomatoes and tomato sauce; mix well.
- Bring to boil.
- Reduce heat to low; simmer 30 to 40 minutes or until thickened, stirring occasionally.
- Add cream cheese, sugar, basil, salt and pepper.
- Cook until cream cheese is completely melted, stirring constantly.
- Serve over hot cooked pasta.
