Vanilla Sauce
- 2 Tbsp. butter
- 1 c. hot water
- 1 tsp. vanilla, rum or maple flavoring
- 2 Tbsp. flour
- 2 Tbsp. sugar
- 1 1/2 c. water
- 1/2 oz. finely ground sage
- 1 tsp. thyme
- 1 tsp. black pepper
- 5 lb. hamburger
- 4 garlic cloves, put through press or 1 oz. bottled garlic juice
- 8 bay leaves
- 1 tsp. marjoram
- 1 tsp. savory
- 1 tsp. ground nutmeg
- 1/2 tsp. ground cloves
- salt to taste
- 4 Tbsp. paprika
- 3 Tbsp. chili powder
- Combine water, bay leaves, sage, marjoram, savory, thyme, nutmeg, pepper, cloves and salt.
- Bring to boil; reduce heat and simmer while processing hamburger, adding more water until brown and in granular form.
- After hamburg is browned, add contents of saucepan and simmer 30 minutes.
- Add paprika, chili powder and garlic.
- Simmer 30 minutes longer, stirring often.
- Freeze in small portions if desired.
