Gumdrop Fruitcake

  1. Preheat oven to 325u0b0.
  2. Mix well the creamed butter, sugar and well beaten eggs.
  3. Sift together the flour, cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg and salt; reserve 1/4 cup for coating gumdrops.
  4. Add sifted mixture to first mixture alternately with the applesauce.
  5. Blend together the baking soda and hot water; add to mixture.
  6. Add the vanilla, raisins, nuts and gumdrops (which have been coated with the reserved dry mixture).
  7. Dough will be very stiff.
  8. Bake in a greased 10-inch tube pan at 350u0b0 for 1 hour and 40 minutes.
  9. Good to eat fresh or store in a tin.
