Aunt Clara'S Jam Cake

  1. Cream butter and gradually add sugar.
  2. Cream together until light and fluffy.
  3. Add beaten eggs.
  4. Sift flour, salt and spices. Dissolve soda in buttermilk and add to creamed mixture.
  5. Add flour mixture to the creamed mixture slowly and beat well after each addition.
  6. Lightly dredge fruit and nuts with extra flour and add to mixture.
  7. Add jam and stir well.
  8. Pour batter into greased and wax-paper lined pans.
  9. Use 2 (9-inch) pans.
  10. Bake at 325u0b0 for 40 minutes.
  11. Ice with a caramel icing.
