Pasta Sauce
- 1 (12 oz.) can Pastene ground, peeled tomatoes
- 1 (18 oz.) can Contadina tomato paste
- 12 oz. water
- 1 c. red cooking wine
- 3/4 c. grated Parmesan cheese
- 2 Tbsp. sugar
- 1 1/2 tsp. dried oregano
- 1 1/2 tsp. dried basil
- 1 1/2 tsp. black pepper
- 1 tsp. crushed red pepper
- salt to taste
- 2 Tbsp. olive oil
- 1 medium onion
- 1 clove garlic
- 1 green pepper
- Chop onion, garlic and pepper into small pieces.
- Add olive oil into large saucepan (medium heat).
- Lightly brown the onion, garlic and pepper in the olive oil.
- Add canned tomatoes, tomato paste and water.
- Heat on medium until paste is combined with tomatoes and water.
- Add remaining ingredients.
- Reduce heat to low.
- Let simmer lightly for six hours.
- If adding meatballs, do so after 2 hours.
