Little Grandma's Old Fashioned Sugar Cookies
- 2 cups sugar
- 1 1/2 cups butter
- 3 large eggs
- 1/2 cup buttermilk
- 1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
- vanilla extract to taste
- 6 cups flour, all-purpose about, enough to make a stiff dough
- 1 1/2 cups sugar white
- 2 tablespoons butter
- light cream (half&half) enough to make creamy
- food coloring optional
- Combine all ingredient and mix and form into dough.
- Don't knead too much, very lightly.
- Can chill a couple of hours or so.
- Roll out on floured board to about 18 inch; to 1/4 inch and cut out and bake on ungreased sheets.
- Bake at 350F (180C) F until very light brown on bottom, 6 to 8 minutes.
- Can sugar the top of the dough and roll it in, or frost with cooked icing.
- ICING: Combine icing ingredients, just enough light cream to make it creamy, add desired food colouring if needed, and cook to a soft ball stage.
- Remove from heat and stir until it begins to thicken.
- Spread quickly on cookies.
