Cheese Mantou Buns
- 200 grams Cake flour
- 1 tsp Baking powder
- 1 two packs of 4 Processed cheese wrapped in foil (or cream cheese)
- 100 grams Sugar
- 80 grams Unsalted butter
- 1 Egg (reserve 1 tablespoon to brush on buns)
- 1 White sesame seeds (if you have some)
- Let the unsalted butter come to room temperature, or microwave for 30 seconds at 500 W to soften.
- Add sugar and egg (setting aside 1 tablespoon to brush on the buns) and mix well with a whisk.
- Sift the ingredients into the butter, egg and sugar, and use a rubber or wooden spatula to mix in.
- (Mix it well, it's OK to knead.)
- Divide both the dough and the cheese into 16 portions.
- Preheat the oven to 390F/200C.
- Wrap the cheese with the dough to form buns.
- Line a baking sheet with kitchen parchment paper, brush with the reserved egg, and sprinkle on sesame seeds if you have them.
- Set the temperature on the preheated oven to 375F/190C, and bake the buns for 15 minutes.
- If the dough is still soft at the end of 15 minutes, leave in the oven with the heat switched off to bake in residual heat.
- I used this soft processed cheese, which contains cream cheese.
- The buns are delicious made with regular cream cheese too.
