Red Cabbage Sweet-Sour

  1. Chop cabbage.
  2. Brown bacon in skillet and pour off excess fat. Add to bacon bits the cabbage, onion and apples.
  3. Combine salt, pepper, sugar and 1/4 cup water and pour over cabbage.
  4. Mix well with fork.
  5. Cook over moderately high heat for 10 minutes or until cabbage and apples are tender.
  6. (Add more water if needed to keep from burning.)
  7. Add vinegar and mix well.
  8. If thickening is desired, mix cornstarch in 1/4 cup water.
  9. Cook an additional minute or 2 until mixture comes to boiling point.
  10. Makes 5 to 6 servings.
