Night Before French Toast
- 1 thin loaf French or Italian bread
- 8 large eggs
- 3/4 tsp. salt
- 3 c. milk
- 4 tsp. sugar
- 1 Tbsp. vanilla extract or almond
- cinnamon
- allspice
- 2 Tbsp. butter, cut into small slices
- Butter a 9 x 13-inch deep baking pan.
- Cut the bread into 1-inch thick slices and arrange in a single layer in the pan.
- In a large bowl, combine the eggs, salt, milk, sugar and vanilla, beating with an electric mixer.
- Pour the mixture over the bread. Sprinkle with the cinnamon and allspice.
- Cover with foil and refrigerate 6 to 24 hours.
- Dot with butter and bake, uncovered, in a 350u0b0 oven for 45 to 50 minutes, until the bread is lightly browned.
- Remove from the oven and let stand for 5 minutes.
- Serve with warm maple syrup or confectioners sugar, yogurt or fresh fruit.
- Serves 4.
