Booze Cake
- 1 1/2 c. seedless raisins
- 2 c. water
- 1/2 c. shortening
- 3/4 c. sugar
- 1 egg
- 1 1/2 c. sifted flour
- 1 tsp. baking soda
- 1/2 tsp. cloves
- 1/2 tsp. nutmeg
- 1/4 tsp. allspice
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1 c. chopped walnuts
- 2 Tbsp. bourbon whiskey
- Cover raisins with water and simmer, uncovered, for 20 minutes.
- Drain, saving 3/4 cup cooking liquid.
- Cool.
- Cream shortening and sugar thoroughly.
- Beat in egg.
- Sift together flour, soda, spices and salt.
- Blend into creamed mixture alternately with cooking liquid.
- Stir in raisins, nuts and whiskey.
- Pour into 2 greased 9-inch layer pans.
- Bake at 350u0b0 for 25 minutes.
- Remove from pans; cool thoroughly.
- Frost tops and sides with Bourbon Hard Sauce.
- Decorate top with walnut halves.
