Applesauce Fig Spice Bars
- 1/2 c. butter or margarine, softened
- 1 c. firmly packed brown sugar
- 1 egg
- 1 tsp. grated orange peel
- 2 c. all-purpose flour
- 1 1/2 tsp. pumpkin pie spice
- 1/2 tsp. baking soda
- 1/4 tsp. salt
- 1 c. applesauce
- 1 c. dried figs, chopped
- 1 c. Diamond walnuts, chopped
- 2 Tbsp. milk
- 1 1/2 c. powdered sugar
- 1/2 tsp. vanilla
- Heat oven to 350u0b0.
- Grease 9 x 13-inch pan.
- Combine butter, brown sugar and egg; beat until fluffy.
- Stir in orange peel. Combine flour, pumpkin spice, baking soda and salt; blend into butter mixture alternately with applesauce.
- Stir in figs and walnuts.
- Spread into greased pan.
- Bake for 20 to 25 minutes or until golden brown.
- Cool 5 minutes.
- Combine powdered sugar, milk and vanilla; mix well.
- Spread over warm uncut bars.
- Cool completely before cutting.
- Yields 2 dozen.
