Sweedish Meatballs
- 2 cup regular bread crumbs
- 1 1/2 cup finely chopped onion
- 1 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- 1 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
- 3/4 cup milk
- 2 lb ground beef
- 3 tbsp butter
- 3 tbsp olive oil
- 2 1/2 tbsp cornstarch
- 1 can beef broth (12 oz)
- 1 cup heavy cream
- Combine onion, bread crumbs, salt, pepper, nutmeg, and milk in a large mixing bowl.
- Allow a few minutes for bread crumbs to soak up milk.
- Add ground beef to mixture.
- Mix well using your hands.
- In a large skillet, heat oil and melt butter.
- Form mixture into 1" or 1 1/2" balls.
- Add to skillet and cook until browned on all sides
- Remove balls with slotted spoon and place in a 9 x 14 deep baking dish.
- Set aside for now.
- Add cornstarch to your skillet and mix with existing pan drippings until bubbly.
- Add beef broth and heavy cream.
- Continue to cook, stirring constantly, until sauce thickens and boils for a minute or so.
- Remove sauce from heat and poor over meatballs in baking dish.
- Place in oven and bake at 325F for 45 minutes to 1 hour.
- Serve over egg noodles.
- (Optional) you can add noodles directly to baking dish when you remove from oven.
- The noodles soak up the sauce nicely.
