Bread And Butter Pickles I Recipe
- 3 quarts. thin sliced sm. cucumbers
- 10 med. white onions, thin sliced
- 1/3 c. salt
- 2 quarts. cracked ice
- 3 3/4 c. sugar
- 3 3/4 c. cider vinegar
- 1 1/8 teaspoon grnd turmeric
- 3/4 teaspoon celery seed
- 1 1/2 teaspoon mustard seed
- Combine cucumbers and onions; sprinkle with salt and cover with cracked ice.
- Cover with a heavy lid and let stand for 3 hrs.
- Drain thoroughly and rinse well with cool water.
- Place in a large kettle.
- Add in rest of ingredients and bring almost to a boil, stirring constantly.
- Don't boil.
- Pack at once into warm sterilized jars and seal.
- Process in warm water bath for 5 min.
