Grilled Tofu in Green Marinade

  1. Drain the block of tofu in a flat-bottomed colander.
  2. Place a plate on top of tofu and then top with a standard size can on top of the plate.
  3. This presses out excess water.
  4. Let tofu drain in colander for 30 minutes while the preparing green marinade.
  5. Slice tofu into 1/2-inch slices (about 9 slices).
  6. Lay tofu pieces flat in a 9x9 glass shallow pan and pour green marinade over.
  7. Flip the tofu over so both sides get covered in marinade.
  8. Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate for 30 minutes or up to overnight.
  9. On a stovetop grill on medium high heat, brush the grill with oil of your choice.
  10. (Tip: Make sure the grill is hot before adding tofuthis will prevent sticking.)
  11. Place tofu on grill and dont touch it!
  12. Let it cook for 5-7 minutes before checking it; the more you play with the tofu on the grill the more it will break and stick.
  13. With a thin spatula, carefully flip tofu over and grill the other side, about 5 minutes.
  14. Transfer to serving plate and cut in half if usng for tacos.
  15. For the green marinade: In a blender, blend soy sauce, lime juice and zest, garlic, scallions, ginger, cilantro and salt.
  16. Pulse on low to get everything moving.
  17. Slowly pour in oil and blend until combined.
