Cranberry Pretzel Macadamia Bars

  1. Heat oven to 325F.
  2. Line 13x9-inch baking pan with aluminum foil, extending foil over edges.
  3. Combine pretzels and brown sugar in bowl; stir in 1/2 cup melted butter until well mixed.
  4. Stir in beaten egg whites.
  5. Press onto bottom of prepared pan.
  6. Bake 8 minutes; sprinkle cranberries and nuts over hot, partially baked crust.
  7. Combine 2/3 cup butter and 1/2 cup brown sugar in 2-quart saucepan.
  8. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until mixture comes to a boil.
  9. Continue cooking, stirring constantly, 1 minute.
  10. Pour evenly over cranberries and nuts in pan.
  11. Continue baking 18-20 minutes or until caramel layer is bubbly and golden.
  12. Place white baking chips and shortening in bowl.
  13. Microwave on Medium (50% power), stirring occasionally, 45-60 seconds or until chips are melted and smooth.
  14. Drizzle over bars.
  15. Cool completely.
  16. Lift bars out of pan using foil ends; cut into bars.
  17. Store at room temperature in container with tight-fitting lid.
